Quintana Roo is the area south of Cancun situated on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Now Sapphire is located on the north end of Puerto Morelos- 20 minutes south of Cancun International Airport and 40 minutes north of Playa del Carmen.
If you want to live like a local, don't forget to bring some Mexican Pesos with you. However, many of the local shops and restaurants in the area will take US Dollars. After all cash is king- but you may end up paying a bit more and it's important to check the exchange rate with the restaurant or shop before you buy. When using US Dollars, expect your change to be returned in Pesos. Check the current exchange rate before you arrive and come prepared! You can exchange Dollars to Pesos at the front desk at Now Sapphire, just make sure you have your passport with you.
Taxis are readily available at Now Sapphire by letting the bellman know where you wish to go. There are signs posted with fixed rates to go into local towns, or you can negotiate a rate to go almost anywhere else you wish to go. If you prefer to explore on your own, you can also rent a car by visiting the rental desk in the lobby. Parking is free for hotel guests to park on resort property.

This small, quiet, fishing village is well-known for having some of the freshest seafood in the area. Get a ride into town and spend the day exploring the local restuarants and small, unique shops around the town square. Bring your pesos! Between freshly caught fish, ceviche, tacos, empanadas, and street corn - there is something here for everyone! All the amazing food and local shops make the town a must-see for anyone wanting to experience living like a local.
Head off the resort property to enjoy some local culture and the tropical Yucatan climate. Located approximately twenty-five minutes north of Now Sapphire, Cancun offers a variety of options to fill your day. In addition to the excursions offered through the event, you can also organize your own cultural tour of the region. Check out the El Rey Mayan ruins near the Hotel Zone in Cancun, take a boat tour, head to an ecopark, go diving at the Cancun Underwater Museum or head to one of the markets for local crafts and food.
Head an hour south to Akumal Beach and experience swimming and diving in the clear sparkling waters of the Caribbean. Here you will find some of the best snorkeling in the area, where you are sure to encounter different types of reef life, ranging from coral, fish, and turtles of all sizes. Great visibility and white sandy beaches are sure to make this a day trip to remember! Check out Cenote Santa Cruz, Yal-Ku Lagoon or Aktun Chen to get a taste of the natural beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Tulum houses some of the most spectacular Mexican coastline alongside well preserved archaeological sites of Pre-Columbian Mayan ruins. You'll get a sense of Mexican history while your walking through these sites. Also while in the area, take advantage of LabnaHa Eco Park where you can explore underground rivers and cenotes. Spend the day snorkeling and diving into natural sinkholes formed by limestone in the middle of the forest. This is the perfect way to get off the property spend time in Mexico.
Playa del Carmen:
Playa del Carmen is a city on the coast that was originally a small fishing town and has recently expanded into many restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment venues. Explore 5th Avenue which is lined with shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels and parallels to the ocean. There are many boats nearby that are ready to take you snorkeling and diving in the incredible reefs that showcase sea turtles, eels, and a large variety of coral. Only a short drive from the resort, this place has so much to offer!
Isla Mujeres is the perfect spot for beach lovers. Plenty of action packed beach activities like kayaking, windsurfing, boating, and snorkeling, are all available in this lush tropical oasis. On shore you can enjoy time exploring the land on a moped, eating some of the delicious fresh seafood, or hanging out on the sand soaking in the rays. Check out Punta Sur on the tip of the island to see the turtle sanctuary and a lighthouse.
